dreamin’ of red fish, blue fish

soo sorry for the lack of posts, been on the west coast for work of late! actually as i’m switching up jobs in the very near future, this was probably one of my last work trips out west. anyhow here are a couple of flicks and a couple of the gems i love the west coast for!

the flight in is always a beautiful thing, as you fly in over the rockies.

our facilities are located on vancouver island, and in victoria to be specific. here is the old queen herself!

so the main gem of the island (& the title of this post), is the amazing shipping container restaurant, red fish blue fish!

in my opinion (having eaten at over 3 dozen seafood restaurants in our country), red fish blue fish, is my favourite seafood joint around. on this occasion, i ordered a piece of cod (fish & chips), an oyster tacone and their chipotle fish chowder!

the chowder itself was incredible. take notice of the spoon just sitting there and how big that piece of fish is. the spoon is literally just sitting there on its own, because it’s sitting on another gigantic piece of fish! honestly this chowder was loaded! and for 5 bux, i was in heaven as i sipped down on this thing!

next up was the fish and chips. they did not go light on this one either! this was a big ol’ piece of cod, fried to perfection! while this isn’t my favourite fish & chips in the country (*that comes in a few weeks when i go to halifax), it comes as a very close second as the tar tar sauce just missed the mark by a pinch!

the gem of this meal, and the wildcard that really changed up the palette was the oyster tacone! this thing was bbq’d and just hit you with tons of flavour as you bite down on every piece of oyster. as with the other dishes, this thing was packed with like 4/5 oysters. honestly between going back and forth between the 3 dishes, i could not have had a better eating experience ever!!! haha

anyhow a lot of locals complain as it’s become a tourist attraction of sorts. when i first started coming to red fish blue fish, it wasn’t necessarily the case 2/3 years ago. these days, as seen above, you’re waiting up to 30 minutes before you even get served. but also as seen in the photos of the actual food, quality does not seem to be affected and honestly, it’s well worth the wait! red fish blue fish is affordable, it’s local, sustainable food, and with the ambience of being in a container on the wharf, this place is just an overall incredible experience.

after feeding myself, i figured they may have been others who were hungry. on the fisherman’s wharf right close to the coast guard base, there are a few friends who frequent this watering hole…

who’s this?!?

6 for $5…

om nom nom nom!!! 5 bux well worth it! haha anyhow tons of stuff to post over the next little while! stay tuned!
